Aziza M. Brown is a recently accepted law student at Cleveland State University College of Law. She is also a video artist and musician in her spare time. In addition to filming, editing, and playing the violin, she has a deep passion for writing and maintaining a lifestyle of continuous learning, acquiring, and refining various skills. She has recently graduated with an Associate of Arts and Bachelor of Liberal Studies degree (2022) and has fulfilled her goal of being an incoming Juris Doctor Candidate (2027).
Aziza is the creator of Art Loves Company, a brand that focuses on the practice of peace, productivity, and creativity. Art Loves Company also represents the joining together of artists, sharing one grand energy and desire to create, communicate, and change the waves of the world around them.
As a video artist, Aziza is drawn to capturing the world around her from as many angles and perspectives as possible. Color, frame, and the preservation of a space’s organic state are of some of the highest importance to her. She films her own vlogs in a creative style, as well as captures footage of events and spaces of others to showcase the ever-present visual beauty surrounding us. She has been filming since childhood and studied film in high school and college, making several short films in adolescence.
She also has begun writing short screenplays she hopes to one day shift into filmmaking. Currently, as a video artist, she takes footage and treats it like paint on the video editing canvas. The process of capturing moving picture, deciding on what is in the frame, and having the freedom to present that footage in any way possible during the editing stage is her greatest joy in art form. She is also an avid film buff and enjoys taking cinema baths with her projector.
As a non-profit director for Riff Mechanics, Aziza helps create budget spreadsheets for grant proposals. She helps the founder of Riff Mechanics, Benjamin Smith, strategize nonprofit plans and specific event plans. She also helps pitch projects during grant application video conferences as well as helps connect with the community during events, handing out free ice cream and popsicles. In addition, she aids in writing and editing grant proposals and is able to integrate her love of videography by filming and editing footage for promotions and grant applications. Riff Mechanics’ flagship feature, the Splice Cream truck, can be spotted throughout various parts of the Cleveland area, recording and connecting the voices of the community, Dj’ing live music for events, and handing out free ice cream and popsicles.
As a musician, Aziza is drawn to deeply moving, sometimes painful melodies and passionate execution of technique. She has studied violin since childhood and draws on the memories of her mother to fuel her connection to the strings. Aziza also enjoys covering songs that hold nostalgic value, her own tracks, as well as improvising dark gypsy-like melodies. Aziza creates sounds that are as unique to her as her own fingerprints. Her music is an echo of the energy that exists within her and a reflection of her experiences, interactions, and inspirations.
